About University

The CICM Missionaries were sent by the Holy See to evangelize the northern part of the Philippines in 1907. It became clear that Baguio, a small mountain village resort in the province of Benguet, would play a crucial role in the region due to its location at least 1,500 meters above sea level and its natural gateway to the Cordillera mountain range, the home of many indigenous tribes.

In 1911, Rev Fr Séraphin Devesse, CICM, established a one-room elementary school in Baguio for ten local boys, which eventually became known as Saint Louis School. Fr. Florimond Carlu, CICM, then started the intermediate grades and a trade school in 1915. The high school was inaugurated in 1921, and college-level courses in the Liberal Arts and Commerce were offered in 1952, with the appointment of Saint Louis College’s first Rector.

In 1955, the graduate-level programs of Saint Louis College received recognition, and on 13 May 1963, the Philippine Government conferred University status on Saint Louis College, marking a significant turning point in its history.
