What is a Study Permit?

A study permit is a type of document that one issue and which is known to allow foreign or international students to study at the designated learning institutions i.e DLIs in the country of Canada. Most foreign and international students need a study permit to study in the country of Canada. One needs to make sure that he or she has all the other documents that he or she needs before he or she can apply for it. A student must also apply for a student permit before he or she travels to the country of Canada.

The student’s study permit is not a visa for him or her. It does not let one enter the country of Canada. He or she may also need a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization i.e eTA. If they authorize his or her study permit, then they will issue one to him or her with his or her study permit.

The Eligibility Requirements or Criteria:

One can come to the country of Canada to study if he or she-

Qualifies as a Fully Vaccinated Citizen:-

If he or she is under the age of 18, he or she is not required to be fully vaccinated. One does need to study at a designated learning institution i.e DLI with an approved COVID-19 readiness plan.

Are Enrolled at a DLI:-

One needs to prove that he or she has enough money to pay for his or her tuition fees, living expenses for himself or herself and any of his or her family members who come with them to the country of Canada and also return transportation for themselves and any of his or her family members who come with them to the country of Canada.

Obey the Law:-

One should not have any criminal record and can also get a police certificate if it is asked or required.

Are in good health:-

He or she must be healthy and can even get a medical exam if asked or required. He or she needs to prove to an officer that he or she will leave the country of Canada when her study permit expires.

Get The Right kind of Documents For Submission:-

One needs all the following documents to apply for a study permit from the country of Canada-

• proof of identity
• proof of acceptance, and
• proof of financial support

He or she may also need-

• a Québec Acceptance Certificate i.e CAQ
• a letter of explanation
• a custodian declaration i.e for the minors only, or
• some other documents if they ask or request documents from the student for an application in progress.

How One Can Apply For a Student Permit:-

Usually, he or she must apply for a study permit before he or she comes to the country of Canada. Some people can also apply for a study permit from within the country of Canada. And in some of the other cases, he or she can apply when he or she arrives in the country of Canada at the port of entry.

One must get their documents ready

When he or she applies, he or she should submit- A letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution i.e DLI that he or she will be attending.

A letter of explanation for any type of documents that are missing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One can apply online:-

If he or she is applying for a study permit, he or she must apply online, whether he or she is outside of Canada or already in Canada.
