Facts of Krok

Krok 1

This is the first part of the Ukrainian Medical Examination. It aims to assess whether school student or graduates can apply important concepts of the foundational science fundamental to the practice of medicine. Ukrainian medical students who wish to seek licensure to practice medicine in Ukraine,  typically take Krok 1 at the end of the third year of medical school. Graduates of international medical schools must also take Step 1 if they want to practice in Ukraine. Graduates from international medical schools must apply through www.testcentr.org.ua.

Exam Pattern:

The Exam Is three and a half hours (for foreign students four hours) taken in a single day, composed of 200 multiple-choice questions. The student is provided with the answer form where he/she should fill only the correct answer. Two answers to the same question will be considered an incorrect answer.

In each test task, there is 5 answers option, but there is sometimes 4 options question.

Subjects:

Step 1 is designed to test the knowledge learned during the basic science years of medical school as applied in the form of clinical vignettes.

This includes :

  • Human anatomy – 9%
  • Biology – 7%
  • Biological Chemistry – 16%
  • Histology, Cytology, and Embryology – 4%
  • Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology – 18.5%
  • Physiology – 6%
  • Pathophysiology – 16%
  • Pathomorphology – 12.5%
  • Pharmacology – 11%

Results:

The official publication of the results of the students of the licensing exam is carried out by the Testing Center within 14 days by electronic informing the higher educational institutions at the official address. The results of the licensed integrated examination by students are not published on the official website of the Testing Center.

The criterion “pass / fail” established by the Testing Centre at the level of 60.5% 

The result of the licensing exam is presented in qualitative and quantitative forms.

The qualitative result of the licensing exam, presented as “composed” / “not made”, is based on the requirements of higher education standards as to the professional competence of a specialist.

The quantitative result of the licensing exam is presented in the multi-point scale of the licensing exam (MLI score) with an average score of 200 and a standard deviation of 20, ie varying in the range from 140 to 260 points.

As a result of licensing exams, the Testing Center prepares reporting forms, which list is approved by the Testing Center. The results of the licensing exam are entered into the Test Center database.

Based on the results of each exam within 30 days from the date of the publication of the test results, the Testing Center prepares the Analytical Reference on the results of the licensing exam and publishes it on its official website.

KROK–2

The assessment for proficient situated controls which compares to the preparation program for experts in the medicinal field. Authorized coordinated assessment KROK-2 “General medicinal preparing” incorporates.

KROK–2: Exam Pattern

This exam has given a stipulated exam pattern to the candidates. This examination can be given in Ukrainian, Russian and English. From the exam pattern candidates can know about the type of questions asked in the exam, the total number of questions, marking scheme of the exam, details about negative marking and other important information about the exam. With the help of exam, pattern candidates can get familiar with the question paper. The duration of exam is 3 hours and 20 minutes. The number of questions in the exam paper is 200 multiple-choice questions. The distribution of questions is discussed below:

KROK–2: Results

The criterion “pass/fail” built up by the Testing Center at the degree of 60.5%. The number of tests in the booklet – 200, routine time – 200 minutes. All students who got the “not passed” result of KROK-2 test, are permitted to finish the state graduation tests, yet don’t get a certificate of licensing KROK-2 test. If the candidate don’t pass state attestation, they don’t get the diploma of higher education institutions. The candidate may retake the KROK-2 test earlier than 1 year.

Rules and Regulations have given by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine

According to the order of Ministry of Health of Ukraine “On request of conducting the incorporated assessments” from 29.04.2013:

Only students with no arrears in the educational plan. Especially in the controls of “KROK-1” are permitted to take the test “KROK-1”.

The exam “KROK-2” is just accessible to students with no arrears in the execution of the educational plan and with the presence of certificates of the license test “KROK-1”.

By the request on Higher Education Institutions students who will have academic arrears, won’t be permitted to compose the incorporated examinations.
